Biodiversity encompasses the billions of organisms living on Earth and their interactions with each other. The primary threats to biodiversity include excessive land use and associated habitat destruction, negligent and undocumented hunting activities, climate change and global warming, pollution factors, and the excessive and sudden spread of invasive species. The purpose of our department is to conduct research on the potential causes, mechanisms, and effects of climate change through climate change simulations and modeling studies. Using climate models, we aim to determine future trends and impacts of climate change on species or groups of species in our country's geography. We aim to conduct scientific studies at national and international levels to contribute to scientific efforts to combat climate change, providing data to fields such as climate change risk assessment, water resource management, modern agricultural practices, and coastal management, and to contribute to the regional and national economy. Additionally, we aim to monitor developments related to biological diversity and climate change domestically and internationally, prepare projects on these topics, publish research, organize national and international conferences, panels, and congresses, and contribute to the development of Turkey's biological richness databases with project outputs.
