DEPARTMENT

Our institute was established by the decision of our university's Senate dated October 7, 2022, deemed appropriate by the Higher Education Council in accordance with Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547 on Higher Education, and published in the Official Gazette dated April 20, 2023, by the Presidential Decree. In the Higher Education Executive Board meeting dated December 6, 2023, chaired by the Presidency of Higher Education Council, it was decided, in accordance with Article 7/d-2 of Law No. 2547 as amended by Law No. 2880, to open three departments within our institute: the Department of Climate Change and Sustainability of Biodiversity, the Department of Wildlife Population Management and Conservation Biology, and the Department of Wildlife Diseases and Rehabilitation. Our institute is in operation with its director, deputy director, and faculty members. The founding objectives of the center include: • Diagnosis and treatment of diseases related to wild animals, disease control, care, husbandry and rehabilitation of injured animals, ensuring their welfare, rehabilitation. • Development of surveillance systems for wildlife diseases in the context of zoonotic diseases of wild animals and public health for global biosecurity, early diagnosis, notification, and disease management. • Revealing the biological richness in our country, efforts directed towards the conservation of species diversity and rare species, as well as valuable ecosystems such as steppes and wetlands. • Developing solutions at the local and national levels to prevent species extinctions and maintain the existence of genetic resources. • Investigating changes in the distribution areas of wild animals under the influence of climate change. • Conducting long-term research in various scientific disciplines related to regional, national, and international diversity, reproductive biology, wintering, hibernation, and migration, ecology, habitat use, population monitoring, distribution, and mapping of wild animals of different species. • Collecting, archiving, and evaluating data on all the aforementioned topics, presenting the results to relevant institutions and organizations through publication, coordinating national and international level studies, representing our university on relevant platforms, fostering the training of experts in relevant scientific disciplines, providing recommendations to relevant institutions and organizations, and awareness raising. • Organizing, promoting, and coordinating basic and applied research in wildlife-related scientific fields within the university, collaborating with similar domestic and international organizations for these purposes, organizing symposiums, congresses, conferences, seminars, summer schools, and courses, publishing scientific articles, and engaging in various activities to enhance wildlife awareness in the community. • Facilitating the exchange of scientific and technical knowledge among national and international research centers, associations, and institutes, establishing a library and documentation center dedicated to wildlife-related materials. • Establishing laboratories, workshops, and other facilities as needed for ongoing research and activities.
